The one change that would not have been appreciated by buyers is the battery pack of the eC3 com- promising the amount of space available in the boot. The eC3 badge on the tailgate and some minor colour scheme variation s are the only differe nces. At the rear too, there is little to distinguish the eC3 from the petrol version. In fact, the solid bonnet grille trend we’ve seen with other EVs is not something that Citroen has adop- ted. The LED headlamps with the ir X-shap ed light si gnature and the Citroen chevron grille are identical to the petrol sibling. The lid to access the char- ging port at the front right panel and the ‘e’ badge are the only giveaways. It would be very hard to tell them apart if you were to stand next to them. The eC3 is nearly identical to the petrol C3 in every aspect of design. Last week I headed out to the WABC O Proving Grounds just outside Chennai to experience first-hand the eC3 and what it has to offer. It does look like the same strategy will be adopted for the eC3 too. With the C3 and its conservative trim strategy, Cit- roen indicated that it is keen on a bottom-u p strateg y, wi th a cl ear fo- cus on keeping the vehicle afford- able. ![]() But will an electric clone alongside its petrol sibling be the right strategy? Maybe Citroen wouldn’ t care which of the two sells more. It is certainly the right time to go electric, what with so much hap- pening already and more waiting in the wings. The ‘eC3’ is a BEV on the C3 platform and it will be Citroen’s next offering for Indian car buyers. Yet the story of the C3 has only just begun its next chapter is electric, and the script was writte n by Citroen even as th e petrol version was being planned. And even though it may be early days to predict the future perform- ance of this B-segment-sized hatch, it would be safe to say that it is unlikely to rock the boat of its competitors. Its first made-for-In- dia vehicle - the C3, has barely been in the mark et for six months. ![]() Itroen India has been cautious with its product plans for this market and frugal in its expectations.
